What you should know?
January 13, 1991 is an unforgettable date in Lithuanian history. That day the Soviet Army tried by force to occupy the main government buildings and the TV Tower.
Confronting the soldiers who carried automatics and the tanks, stood an unarmed mass of hundreds of people. During the clash, 14 residents were killed. Now the streets near the tower carry their names. Near the tower are monuments to those who lost their lives. Inside the tower, there is a small exhibit of photos concerning that memorable night.
Not long ago near the TV Tower a monument was unveiled, called “Sacrifice” (sculptor Darius Bražiūnas and architect Artūras Asauskas). It is dedicated to all who at some time fought for Lithuania’s freedom.
